2017/10/27 As a part of the results of IMPC project (the Japan Mouse Clinic is participating), we have performed the high-throughput hearing phenotyping in the IMPC KO mice, analyzed for up to 3006 knockout lines, and we detect known hearing loss genes, but the vast majority, 52. The results have been published in Nature Communications (26th June 2017) and has implications for understanding the physiological complexity of the auditory system in human auditory function.

2017/07/11 As a part of the results of IMPC project (the Japan Mouse Clinic participates in), we have performed the high-throughput phenotyping in the wildtype and the mutant mice, analyzed for up to 234 traits of the representing 2,186 knockout lines, and we found a large proportion of mammalian traits in both types were influenced by sex. The results have been published in Nature Communications (26th June 2017) and has implications for interpreting disease phenotypes in animal models and humans.

2017/04/24 Researchers from the Global Research Cluster in RIKEN have developed a potential mouse model for the genetic disorder known as an NGLY1 deficiency. Published in the journal PLOS Genetics, the study describes how a complete knockout of the Ngly1 gene in mice leads to death just before birth, which can be partially rescued by a second knockout of another gene called Engase. This is a collaborative work of RIKEN scientists including Drs. Suzuki, Fujihira, and Taniguchi of the Global Research Cluster and Drs. Tamura and Wakana of the Japan Mouse Clinic Team.

2017/02/17 The collaborative research team consisting of Kyoto University (Dr. Naruse C. and Prof. Asano M.), Osaka University (Prof. Ikawa M.) and The Japan Mouse Clinic found that the demethylase activity of Jmjd3, which tightly regulates the expression of Hox cluster genes, is critical for the vertebra and rib development in the mouse. This result was published in the "FASEB Journal."

2016/11/18 Prof. Osumi and Dr. Yoshizaki of Tohoku University and The Japan Mouse Clinic team indicate that mice with a single genetic risk factor can develop different phenotypes with behavioral abnormalities depending on the paternal age. Our study advocates for serious considerations on the role of paternal aging in breeding strategies for animal studies. This result is published in the online issue of PLOS ONE on November 18th.

2016/09/20 The International Mouse Phenotyping Consortium (IMPC) identified 410 genes that are essential to life in the mouse through the comprehensive phenotyping of 1751 KO mouse lines. The results have been published in Nature (22nd September 2016) and will provide invaluable data set to investigate gene function and contribute to conquer human intractable diseases.
